52 card challenge week 2

And boy was this a challenge!! This week was a colour challenge using this photo.

I had no papers remotely close to the colours needed so went about it a different way and pulled in the
colours using buttons, a brad and some ribbon.

Simple but a nice clean card for when I need to send some thanks.

Simply a moment - January 2014

It's been a while since I posted a "moment" but I am determined to post 12 this year :)

I am snuggled on the sofa, feet on the stool, throw on my lap, keeping nice and warm. I can hear music from the kitchen - Tony is singing along to Bad Moon Rising (a song that has a special significance in our early years). I have had a weekend at Brownie holiday and am still feeling the effects even after a wonderful hot bath!  I sip some red wine and relish the taste, the first since 3rd Jan. I have broken my dryathlon today which is not good but I tell myself I deserve it!  I am simultaneously reading blogs and stroking Mackenzie, one of our 6 month old kittens, while enjoying being "connected" again.  We were in a warm, cosy cottage but with no TV, internet or music.  I sit here and realise I miss those things.  They are such a part of my daily life now.  From the kitchen I can smell the roast beef Tony is cooking for my tea.  He texted me yesterday to check I needed dinner and then chose one of my favourites. How I love that man!  Then I hone in on the music again.  This time the Dixie Chicks  - a band we discovered together. I smile at the memory and how music is always a common factor in our life.  I reach out for Mackenzie again but she has gone.  Kittens do not stay still that long I have learnt - I need to grab the cuddles while I can! Then there is a shout of "dinners ready" from the kitchen and it is time to reconnect.  With food, with home and with family.

NB - music links are provided for your enjoyment :)

Thank you to Alexa who started the meme "Simply a moment". To play along you just head over and link up with your moment.

52 card challenge 2014 - 1st card done!

How hard can it be to make one card each week?  Well, very if last year was anything yo go by!  But New Year, new start and all that so I'm giving it another go.  If you're not aware of the challenge then head on over to Nat's blog at Kool Kitty Musings.

So on to week one - Make a card using new stash.  Sadly I didn't get any for Christmas (It's OK I really didn't need any, wanted yes, but needed no!) so I used the last kit I purchased from Quirky kits.

It was thrown together so quickly and I added a wood veneer heart, some twine and some enamel dots.

Feels good to have got the first one ticked off the list :)

Sketchy Scrappers November Sketch

Couldn't sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning so ended up getting up at 5am!  First I sorted a load of December photos out so I can scrap them project life style as I did not do a JYC album this year.  Next I set about doing the November sketch fro Sketchy Scrappers.  This was Gemma's sketch and I loved it so much I ended up doing it twice!

Firstly some pictures of Josh from 2011 at a trip to Dunham Massey, our local NT house where he tried out the irons in the servants quarters;

The papers were Cosmo Cricket - Tea for Two from a Sarah's kit (Still a bit left in this one!).

Next up was Josh's 10th birthday party...

Again an old Sarah's cards kit - Pebbles - Tree House and I think only enough for cards from it now :)

One more sketch to do and then I've caught up (for now!)

Sketchy Scrappers October Sketch

Yes, October (hangs head in shame!)... I am still catching up with this monthly challenge from the Sketchy Scrappers group I belong too.

However this was a lovely sketch posted by Karen;

I chose to turn the sketch and used some photos of my daughter on holiday last year.  She rarely poses for me any more so this was a real treat :).  The papers are from a recent Quirky kit I purchased as I wanted to try one out.  My Sarah's kits have nearly all gone so I'm in the market for another lol!  I liked the selection of papers and added some washi and some pearls to finish off the page...

I journalled about how Alex has embraced her new glasses (she got them in May last year) and wears them all the time but that she looks gorgeous with them on or off!

Thanks for stopping by and I'll be back with some more layouts soon following my 5am scrapping yesterday!

Still scrapping 2012!

As mentioned in my last post I am trying to scrap most of 2012 with both 12x12 pages, 6x12 pages, and multi pocket pages.  I am enjoying the process but it is taking it's time!

I finished off this page over the Christmas holidays using an old Sarah's Cards kit - WRMK; Maple Grove.

This was a November kit aimed at Autumn scrapping but it went just great with this selfie of my husband and I on the beach in Portugal and I think the orange and blue papers remind me of the sea and sand.  I added a flair badge and some blue and gold mist from my stash to finish it off.  I also wanted to make it from the same kit as this page (which I have already blogged) which it will sit opposite...

Well this kit is just about done apart from squeezing out a card or two :)  I'm going to try and join in with the 52 card challenge again this year (although I did fall beside the wayside after about 10 cards inn 2013 - ooops!!) so I'm sure it won't be long before the rest is used up.

Back tomorrow with another page...I am on a roll at the moment!
